Cathay Pacific cuts fuel surcharges by 45%
25 Nov 2008
Cathay Pacific has announced that it will reduce its fuel surcharges by 40%
to HK$499 for long-haul flights and by 45% to HK$108 for short-haul flights
from 1 December.
A Cathay Pacific spokesman said: “Airfares have come down substantially over
the past few months as a result of market forces and our own tactical
promotions…We believe the reduced fuel surcharges will further help to make
air travel more affordable and attractive.”
The airline says it “regrets the need to impose fuel surcharge on
passengers, but the airline’s fuel surcharges continue to lag far behind
those imposed by other international airlines on comparable routes outside
Hong Kong”. It added that jet fuel costs continue to account for around half
of its operating costs.
