Brussels Airlines to join Star Alliance 12 Dec 2008 Brussels Airlines is to become a member of the Star Alliance. The airline alliance has voted at its annual board meeting to accept the application of the carrier to become a future member. The move follows Star Alliance member Lufthansa’s purchase of a 45% stake in the carrier back in September. The German carrier also has plans to take full ownership within two years. Glenn Tilton, chairman, president and CEO of United Airlines, in his role as chairman of Star Alliance, said, “Brussels Airlines further strengthens the Star Alliance by offering greater connectivity throughout Europe and Africa to better serve the international travel needs of all our customers.” Bernard Gustin, managing director of Brussels Airlines, said “We are very happy with this invitation from Star Alliance and we look forward to becoming a member carrier. Together we will be able to bring all the advantages of Star Alliance to our customers, both at the heart of Europe where we have our state-of-the-art hub, and to Africa, our second home where we have more than 80 years of experience.” The alliance says it will bring its international network to 1,074 destinations in 174 countries and allow members of Brussels Airlines’ Privilege frequent flyer programme to collect and redeem miles on all other Star Alliance member carriers. The alliance currently has 21 members. http://www.businesstravelworld.com/page.cfm/action=Archive/ArchiveID=5/Entr yID=1451 http://0rz.tw/005dU -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.133.220.118
