Flybe closes Norwich base 05 Dec 2008 Flybe is to end its Norwich to Dublin service from 28 March with the start of the summer schedule. The airline will also close its Norwich base, placing aircraft operating the routes which will continue from the airport at the other ends of the route and putting 45 jobs with the airline at risk. It will mean, for example, that the first departure from Norwich to Edinburgh will now be at 0850 rather than 0700. However, the airline will retain services to Manchester and Edinburgh but also reintroduce Jersey and Exeter services. The airline has started consultations with the Norwich staff, who will be encouraged to apply for vacancies elsewhere on the Flybe network and will be offered relocation costs to move to another Flybe base. Flybe’s chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter, said: “Flybe is pleased to confirm our commitment to our Norwich passengers by not only announcing our summer timetable to Edinburgh and Manchester but also by re-introducing our services to Jersey and Exeter. We are naturally disappointed not to be able to retain the service to Dublin but anyone reading the newspapers will know we live in challenging times and for Flybe to be able to continue to offer choice to the travelling public, we must remain competitive and take difficult decisions”. He added: “Tough choices have to be taken in the current economic climate. The only realistic way to retain services at the airport and for Flybe to maintain a strong schedule from Norwich is to redeploy the aircraft to Manchester and Edinburgh. We want every single one of our staff to stay and that’s why today we have told them of our plans and will work with them and their trades unions to ensure Flybe retains their skills”. http://www.businesstravelworld.com/page.cfm/action=Archive/ArchiveID=6/EntryID =1427 http://0rz.tw/1d000 -- RAISE THE FIST OF THE METAL CHILD! -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.133.220.118
