A Personal Account of the South Korea’s Path to Democracy
南韓，和臺灣有驚人的相似：走過反共獨裁統治；走過光州的流血；經濟突飛猛進的同時，卸任總統因貪腐而被起訴。民主的路，既光輝又坎坷…。
今天韓國總統特聘的聯合國代表，當年卻是長年流亡海外的【黑名單】異議分子。個人命運與國族歷史絲縷相連，他將如何對歷史情境相似的臺灣人敘述韓國的民主心路？
Similar to Taiwan, South Korea's road to democratization is both glorious and arduous. From Syngman Rhee and Park Chung Hee’s anticommunist dictatorship to the sanguinary uprising of the “Gwangju Democratization Movement,” from the economic miracle to corruption scandals, South Korean’s path to democracy has been bumpy.
Dr. Samuel Lee, Secretary-General of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, spent many years in Europe as a dissident in exile; his personal life and destiny so intertwined with the national history. He will give an illuminating account of Korea’s difficult path to democracy.
講者 李三悅 聯合國教科文組織南韓委員會秘書長
60年代還是學生的李三悅曾參與「四月學運」，迫使四度連任的總統李承晚下野；70年代他在德國發起韓國民主運動，遭流放13年；80年代返國後，持續致力於民主及公民運動，並推動兩韓和平統一。2004年韓國總統任命他為聯合國教科文組織南韓委員會秘書長。
Speaker Dr. Samuel Lee
Secretary-General, Korean National Commission for UNESCO
As a student in the 1960’s, Lee participated in the April Student Revolution, which helped bring down Syngman Rhee. He was later exiled for 13 years. While in Germany, Dr. Lee founded the Germany Democratization Movement for Korea in the 1970’s. Upon returning to South Korea in the 1980’s, he actively engaged in civil movement and advocated peaceful reunification of the two Koreas.
