BREAKING NEWS: Aldridge out 'indefinitely'
Posted by Jason Quick April 03, 2007 14:55PM
Concerning news out of Trail Blazers headquarters today: Prized rookie
LaMarcus Aldridge is out indefinitely until a battery of tests can determine
what caused his dizziness during Saturday's game against the Clippers.
After playing seven minutes against the Clippers, Aldridge left the game
complaining of feeling dizzy. Doctors discovered a high heart rate, after
which Aldridge was taking to a Portland emergency room. The orginial
diagnosis was dehydration.
But after Aldridge wore a heart monitor on Monday, the test were ruled to be
"inconclusive", and two doctors had differing opinions on Aldridge's
condition. The team would not disclose what those conclusions were.
Aldridge will receive a series of tests Wednesday in Portland, then will be
flown to Los Angeles for more tests later in the week. General manager Kevin
Pritchard said the tests will expand beyond heart-related matters.
"I don't want to get everybody inflated and going crazy over this,''
Pritchard said. "It's just that we have doctors who differ in what this can
be, and when that happens you want to make sure we get it right.''
Pritchard reported that Aldridge feels fine and wants to play against the
Jazz. However, the team has already ruled that Aldridge will miss at least
the next four games - Wednesday against the Jazz, and the three upcoming road
games in Texas.
"Right now we are trying to figure it out,'' Pritchard said. "Any time a
player gets dizzy during a game and gets a heart beat that is a little higher
than normal, it's cause for concern. But he feels great, and he is ready to
get back out here and play. That's the kind of kid he is. But we are going to
run more tests and get a more accurate diagnosis so we can treat it. That's
the biggest thing right now. We are in the ruling-out process.''
Coach Nate McMillan said he will start Travis Outlaw at power forward and use
Raef LaFrentz off the bench. Also, McMillan said Jarrett Jack will retain his
starting point guard spot, resulting in a starting lineup tomorrow of Jack at
point guard, Brandon Roy at shooting guard, Ime Udoka at small forward,
Outlaw at power forward and Jamaal Magloire at center.
Also, McMillan said the team will sign Luke Schenscher for the rest of the
season now that Aldridge's availability is in question. The Blazers now have
11 healthy players.
