Trail Blazers Sign Sam Clancy The Portland Trail Blazers came to terms with forward Sam Clancy, signing him to a one-year contract. Clancy, 25, played most recently for Forum Filatelico Valladolid Spain, following a highly successful 2004-05 season with the CBA’s Idaho Stampede, where he garnered All-CBA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors after averaging 19.1 points and posting 10.8 rebounds over 48 games. "Sam has demonstrated a toughness and tenacity at the college level, in the CBA, as well as in Europe," said Trail Blazers general manager John Nash. "He will add to the intensity of our training camp and practice sessions." The 6-foot-7, 240-pound Clancy was the second-round pick of the Philadelphia 76ers (45th overall) in the 2002 NBA Draft before missing the entire 2002-03 season rehabbing a left-knee injury. The 2002 Pac-10 Player of the Year at USC, Clancy finished his four-year career with the Trojans as the school’s all-time leader in blocked shots (195), while placing third on the career ledger in points (1,657), second in rebounding (839) and fifth in steals (134).
