Ultrafast nonlinear spectroscopy and elec-tronic structure of
light harvesting complexes
G. R. Fleming, U C
Berkeley, USA
Femtosecond nonlinear spectroscopic experi-ments such as three pulses
photon echo measurements support the ring of dimer model for LH2
and most probably LH1. In this model, ex-citation is delocalized only a
dimer unit.

Dynamics and struc-ture reconciled in bac-terial photosynthetic
light-harvesting
V. Sundstrom, Lund
Univ., Sweden
Femtosecond transient absorption combined with computer simula-tions
strongly indicates that excitation deloca-lization lengths in LH1 and
LH2 are ~4 BChls and the excitation trans-fer is partly coherent.

Charge separation in photosynthesis reaction centers
R. van Grondelle,
U. of Amsterdam, The Nether-lands
Absorbance difference kinetic measurements show that the species that drive
electron trans-fer in photosynthesis do not necessarily have to be the
excited state of a pigment dimer.

Primary processes in photosystem I reaction center
K. Yoshihara,
japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technolo-gy, Japan
Primary processes in a photosystem I reaction center are studied using
sub-picosecond fluores-cence upconversion technique. From kinetic modeling,
the intrinsic time constant for charge separation from P700 is less than 4
ps.
