Tsao comes up lame again with possible labrum tear

Right-handed pitcher Chin-hui Tsao, ranked the top prospect in the Colorado
Rockies system, suffered another setback with Class AAA Colorado Springs on
Sunday. Tsao complained of right shoulder soreness while he warmed up for a
start at New Orleans.

He was scratched from the start and will be in Denver today to be examined by
the Rockies medical staff.

There is concern about a possible labrum tear.

Tsao, 23, who underwent reconstructive right elbow surgery in 2001, opened the
season on the Sky Sox disabled list because of shoulder soreness. He did not
make his first competitive appearance of the season until June 15 at low-level
Class A Asheville, where he started twice before making two starts at Class AA
Tulsa. He then joined the Sky Sox on July 5. He earned the win that night
against Omaha, allowing two runs in six innings, but in his next start, July 10
against Oklahoma, he allowed six runs on 11 hits and a walk in four innings.

The injury makes it doubtful Tsao will be able to pitch for his native Taiwan
in the Olympics next month.
