Australia beats Taiwan amid controversy Australia edged out Taiwan 1-0 in a controversial Olympic Games softball preliminary round match tonight. Play was held up for six minutes in the fourth inning as the Taiwanese angrily disputed the umpires' call which allowed Kerry Wyborn's match-winning run to stand after she collided with shortstop Wang Ya Fen between second and third bases. Australian Peta Edebone hit the ball towards the pair and as they crashed into each other, the ball went beyond Wang and Wyborn scampered home. The ruling the incident was accidental sparked Wang, Taiwanese coach Chiao-Liang Ni and an unknown man in the crowd who appeared to be a Taiwanese official to engage in a long and heated exchange with the umpires. Eventually the match continued, with Australian pitcher Tanya Harding producing her second match-winning performance in three matches to steer her side to victory. Harding gave up only two hits to continue her great form after she kept world No.2 Japan hitless during her pitching stint in Saturday's upset 2-1 victory. Australia now has a 2-1 win-loss record, rebounding tonight after its 10-0 drubbing by gold medal favourite the US yesterday. - AAP A -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 130.194.150.83
