平常心 Play your own game.

帶領日本隊奪下世界棒球經典賽冠軍後，王貞治7月發現胃腫瘤，現正療養中。王貞
治在選手時代，擁有755支全壘打世界紀錄。擔任監督初期戰績低迷，媒體與球迷質
疑他的領導統御能力，甚至從看台上倒速食麵到他頭上。但王貞治終在1999年贏得日
本大賽，讓鷹隊相隔35年後，再度勇奪「日本一」頭銜。
王貞治的職棒生涯不如想像中平順，但他竭盡所能演好角色（role player），以期
勝利。同樣的情形發生在棋士林海峰身上。他23歲時，首度問鼎名人賽，賽前求見恩
師吳清源開示。吳送他三個字：「平常心」（Play your own game.），說比賽在即
，別臨時改變棋風，更不必太在意勝負。林海峰大受感應，果然贏棋。
例：”Mr. Wang is the person who knows what his role is and does a good
job. He typifies what a role player is all about.” 「王先生謹守本分，是
大家的楷模。」
任人擺佈 易自亂陣腳
”Don't be distracted to try to change your driving form before the golf
tournament. Just play your own game.” 「保持平常心。不要在高爾夫大賽前，
臨時改變你熟悉的開球姿勢。」
求好心切，聽任他人擺佈，結果反而自亂陣腳。美國人以「和帶妳去舞會的人共舞」
比喻「該怎麼辦就怎麼辦」。舞會上帥哥很多，但如果女孩子到處和其他男子跳舞，
日後就不會有人傻到再邀她去參加舞會。這也是一種平常心的體現。
例：”We thought we might have to change our program, but Sam calmly said
stay with what we have been successful with. We have to dance with the one
that brought us ” 「我們以為計畫要改變了，但山姆平靜地告訴我們保持平常心
，不要胡思亂想。」
做人做事不管別人的評價，孟子稱為「自反而縮雖千萬人吾往矣」（The person who
knows that he is right will fight ten million people who he believes are
wrong.）。王貞治以績效掛帥，說話有份量（say it with conviction），像擁有「
尚方寶劍」（has the juice），符合孫子兵法「故戰道必勝，主曰無戰，必戰可也
；戰道不勝，主曰必戰，無戰可也」的精神，自然不必聽命不專業的指導。
擁有定見 不堅持己見
例：”Being reasonably confident of this, the CEO looks his financial man-
ager in the eye and says it with con-viction.”「總經理心中有數，語氣篤定
地向財務主管交代事情。」
”Does Susan have the juice to make that decision？” 「蘇珊真的有權做這個
決定嗎？」
擁有定見和堅持己見（too big for their britches）略有不同，後者不但不接受別
人的意見，甚至常會越級報告（going over their heads），讓老闆不堪其擾。
例：”Jeff began to think that he could go straight to the top and by pass
his boss. Well, his boss had to teach him that he was getting too big for
his britches.”「小傑經常越級報告。他的直屬老闆要他注意行政倫理。」
”Jeff, on more than one occasion, tried to go over his boss's head with a
complaint.” 「小傑經常到大老闆那裏打小報告。」
”If you try to go over my head a-gain, you're fired！” 「如果你再跑上去
告狀，我就炒你魷魚！」
上下齊心 無事不成功
部屬桀驁不馴，老闆也不好受。上下齊心，無事不成。長官先要讓下情能夠上達（
open door policy），還要給屬下揮灑空間以立戰功。上下以「大局」（a matter
of proportion）為重，就會產生像王貞治這種能打勝仗的國寶級（living treas
ure）名將，正是孫子所說的「利合于主，國之寶也」（地形篇）。
”Everyone knows that I have an open door policy and that they can come
and talk to me any time.” 「我辦公室大門永遠打開，歡迎隨時前來賜教。」
”As a matter of proportion, we are not going to spend all our time on the
minute portion of cases that in the long run do not impact a great number
of people.”「不浪費時間在無關宏旨之處，以大局為重。」
