Barry Zito未來幾年將繼續效力舊金山灣區球隊，但已不是運動家而是巨人。
根據報導，Zito最終同意巨人7年1億2800萬美元的天價合約，且巨人擁有2014年1800
萬美元的選擇權，使得薪資總額最多可來到1億4400萬美元。
在此之前，對Zito有興趣的球隊包括遊騎兵、大都會、洋基、水手、天使，其中遊騎
兵所提出的6年8400萬美元外加第7年1500萬美元選擇權、買斷金400萬美元的提議未
獲經紀人Scott Boras所接受，因為Boras希望為客戶找到一紙上億美元的合約。至於
洋基根本沒有提出合約價碼。
遊騎兵老闆Tom Hicks雖對未能爭取到Zito感到失望，但至少慶幸Zito不是留在美聯
西區，減少對遊騎兵的傷害。Zito生涯對戰遊騎兵的戰績為17勝5敗、自責分率3.76
，是除水手(12勝2敗)外對戰勝率最高的球隊。

對遊騎兵來說，未爭取到Zito使得來年的先發投手陣容尚有空缺，前4人分別是Kevin
Millwood、Vicente Padilla、Robinson Tejeda、Brandon McCarthy，第5號則由Ka
meron Loe、John Koronka、Edinson Volquez、Josh Rupe等人爭奪。該隊雖也試圖
洽詢Mark Mulder，但Mulder的肩膀手術得到明星賽左右才能復原。
對巨人而言，走了Jason Schmidt卻補足Zito這名戰力，使得先發5人大致確定，分別
是Zito、Matt Morris、Matt Cain、Noah Lowry、Brad Hennessey，甚至菜鳥Jonath
an Sanchez也有機會。
Zito是1999年運動家首輪第9順位挑中的球員，2000年登上大聯盟後2001年即成為主
力先發投手，以連續6個球季至少超過200局投球，完全沒有健康方面的問題。2006年
戰績16勝10敗、自責分率3.83，大聯盟7個球季總成績為102勝63敗、自責分率3.55。
他曾於2002年以22勝5敗、自責分率2.75的成績獲得美聯塞揚獎。
Zito拒絕遊騎兵而擇巨人對其成績有一定助益，因為AT&T Park屬於投手球場、Ameri
quest Field in Arlington則是典型的打者球場。以近年來Zito的K/9、K/BB比降低
，H/9與HR/9升高的情況下，加盟國聯西區球隊或可維持不錯的成績，也增加巨人重
返季後賽的機率。
