This time, however, the 64-year-old female passenger supposedly admitted it indeed belongs to her and is some sort of an amulet, said an article from Inquirer; citing a report from the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) on Thursday. According to the police, the .22 caliber bullet was found by baggage inspectors inside the luggage of American Gemma Kaufmann who was scheduled to leave for Taipei, Taiwan via EVA Air on Tuesday morning. The image of what looked like a bullet reportedly appeared on the X-ray machine during a final security check, prompting NAIA staff to manually check Kaufmann’s baggage. “The woman admitted it was hers but said it was only an amulet. It was like a necklace,” said PNP-Avsegroup head Supt. Pablo Francisco Balagtas. While the bullet was confiscated by security personnel, Kaufmann was eventually allowed to board her flight. Balagtas added the bullet this time was empty of any gunpowder, unlike the one found on another American passenger, Lane Michael White. White earlier complained of extortion when NAIA staff allegedly found bullets in his luggage and was asked to cough out P30,000 pesos in exchange for not being charged with a criminal offense. When White refused to pay, he was formally charged with violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and spent a week in prison before he was freed after posting P40,000 bail. After the ‘laglag-bala’ modus was brought to public light by a US-bound OFW via a Facebook post, more victims surfaced to reveal a similar experience, including a Filipina from Batangas who was forced to pay P400 in another story that happened way back in 2012. The latest development, however, marks the first time that a passenger admitted to carry a bullet on a luggage and was not threatened with extortion, but was instead allowed to travel. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc), 來自: 49.218.99.240 ※ 文章網址: https://www.ptt.cc/bbs/Aviation/M.1444030792.A.753.html
