Postdoctoral research associate (plant tissue culture)

POSITION:         Postdoctoral Research Associate
  
This is a 24-month, non-tenure leading position with the option to
extend an
additional year, based on a satisfactory performance evaluation and
available funding. The position is available now.  The person in this
position
is expected to perform independently in conducting research on plant
tissue culture and transformation in orchids. Research will be
conducted primarily in the In Vitro Morphogenesis Laboratory, Institute
of Botany, Academia Sinica located in Nankang, Taipei, under the
supervision of Dr. Wei-chin Chang.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Research will include the establishing of in vitro cultures of several
orchids, ginseng and bomboo and plant regeneration, and the analysis of
transformed plants for gene expression at the nucleic acid and
biochemical levels.  Work will require careful attention to sterile
culture techniques.  Suitable experimental strategies will be
deter-mined with the advise of the supervisor, and accurate and
complete records must be maintained. The incumbent will be expected to
present research results at appropriate technical and journals, and
collaborate with other colleagues on the project.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D. in the plant sciences or related discipline is required.  A
proven track record in molecular biology is required.  Knowledge of
scanning electron microscopy and histology are preferred.

SALARY:

Salary starts from NT$50,000-55,000, depending on experience.
