Blur bass player Alex James is to try his hand at TV presenting when he fronts a new series about his stomping ground Soho.
James, renowned for his alcohol fuelled rock 'n' roll lifestyle, will host a six-part series about London's central party district.
Called '24 Hours In Soho', the show reveals the district through the eyes of residents and workers - including strippers, chefs and drag artists. Each show condenses a four-hour period into a half-hour episode.
James began frequenting Soho 12 years ago after Blur signed their first record contract.
"I wouldn't normally consider doing something like this but I've got a degree in Soho and I thought I was qualified to do it," explained James. "Soho is where I spend my spare time. I like the chaos and the way it all spills out onto the street."
Meanwhile James has been writing and producing with Sophie Ellis Bextor, one time Theaudience singer who featured on Spiller's Groovejet single.
Of his first TV presenting role, he said: "I won't be giving up the day job but everyone seems happy with how its gone."
