Speculation is mounting over who will guest star on the forthcoming
Blur album after the band's official site referred to a singer named
Sophie.
In his latest online diary entry, bassist Alex James describes Sophie
as, "a proper girl, a thinker and a looker", adding that when she sings,
"it's like scratching an itch".
An official spokeswoman for the band was unable to identify the 'Sophie'
in question, and told dotmusic that Alex James was writing with Bextor
for her forthcoming solo album, having worked with her previously on
debut LP track, 'Move This Mountain'.
However, a spokesman for the Blur Fan Club has stated that it is NOT pop
singer Sophie Ellis Bextor.
"No, S E-B isn't on the new Blur album," said Martin Hayward.(挖 就是那個
Martin耶) "I spoke to [producer] Ben Hillier yesterday and it seems that
are a few guests on the album, apart from Mike Smith, the sax player, and
the Moroccan String Section that you could see on the web cam.
"Also, The Neptunes didn't contribute in the end - schedules wouldn't
permit it. Hope that's cleared some stuff up."
Elsewhere, James makes reference to pop producer/songwriter Matt Rowe,
another contributer to the album whose past credits include the Spice
Girls amongst others.
"Matt Rowe is a pop genius," says Alex. " He understands music and uses
it as a spanner to open people's minds. Matt makes a loop and we start
grooving, round chord sequences, round riffs, Sophie sings and it's like
scratching an itch. Spontaneous. Beautiful."
Blur, who are currently putting the finishing touches to their album at
London's Mayfair Studios, are expected to release the new LP in early 2003.
