Condescending
He said "I think Gay Byrne just done what the people expected him to do which
was to take the p*** out of these six lads that looked like total gobshites,
you know. He came out and from the word go he was so condescending. We didn't
even notice. For the first three years after that I used to cringe every time
I saw it, but now when I look at that I have a feeling of proudness because you
kinda were that crap at one stage, and with enough determination and hard work
and luck look at what you can achieve."
Shane Lynch is more direct on the programme. "When we got to the studio, Gay
Byrne, who I think is a w*****, basically said we could not go on the TV show
unless we were going to perform for him. So now it is in our hands to find
something to do in an hour."
The show also features interviews with the two original band members Mark
Walton and Richie Rock who were given their marching orders by manager Louis
Walsh.
Mikey Graham is then called in as band member number five and is lead singer on
the first single, a cover version of the Detroit Spinners Working My Way Back
To You Babe.
About the single Shane Lynch said: " At the time we thought it was a great
record but looking back it was actually s****. We were being run by these
management guys who said 'yeah, this is the track and this is going to be
brilliant' and we didn't really care less we just went and done it".
In the early days Lynch said they would have performed this track, "about four
times" because it was the only song they had.
