Ronan Keating Biography
Ronan Keating was born on the 3rd of March in 1977, to his parents Marie and
Gerry Keating, in Dublin. He was raised in Bayside, Dublin and spent his
years growing and living in the local area.
By the young age of 16, Ronan was chosen to be part of the massively
successful Irish boy band Boyzone. He was chosen due to his worthy singing
talents, and his ability to let loose and dance when he needed to! He
impressed the manager, Louis Walsh during his career with Boyzone that he
later went on to co-manage Westlife with Walsh.
In 1997, Ronan had the illustrious job of presenting the Eurovision Song
Contest. The contest is considered both as a serious competition, and a joke
to some people. Presenting the contest reminded the world of Boyzone and
their music, and quite possibly fuelled the giant surge in the purchase of
their album released in 1998.
By 1998 when Boyzone had hit the big time, and were a household name across
the UK, Ronan had one of the biggest years of his life. Not only due to the
extreme success of Boyzone’s 1998 release ‘A Different Beat’, but this was
also the year that Ronan married his wife Yvonne Connolly, and sadly, his
mother also passed away from breast cancer.
It was at this point in his life that Ronan decided he wanted to do something
about educating the world about the consequences of breast cancer, and began
to set up the Marie Keating foundation which strives to educate, support and
sponsor many patients dealing with breast cancer, or family not coping with
loss. The foundation also has set up many vans which tour the UK, and help
educate people about breast cancer, while also teaching people how to
recognize the symptoms and many signs of the disease.
Ronan Keating has been the most successful out of the members of Boyzone with
5 records to his name, and millions of records sold. All of his singles have
made it into the top ten on the UK charts (except for his cover of the Goo
Goo Dolls classic hit ‘Iris’), which is an incredible effort for any
recording artist to achieve. Not only that, but he is in the Guinness Book of
World Records for being the only artist to be in the top 10 in the UK charts,
for 30 singles in a row.
Not only is Ronan dedicated to music, but is also an active member in Make
Trade Fair, and is part of a Christian relief program that sponsors children
in Africa. He has taken several trips to Africa in order to gain some
publicity to the dire situation in many towns and villages. Ronan has been
appointed a UN Goodwill Ambassador for the FAO, which has furthered his
position and his knowledge in the situation of the lack of food in most third
world countries. Through being appointed this position, he has also had
greater power in the organization of trips to Africa in order to help ease
the problems, and research for future plans.
Ronan also performed for one of the Live 8 concerts in Edinburgh, to help
educate the world on the situation of Africa.
However, through all this humanitarian work, and musical ambition, Ronan
still stays close to his family and understands family values (possibly due
to growing up in a family of 5 children) He has three children Jack, Marie
(named after his mother) and Ali.
Many of Ronan’s colleagues acknowledge his incredible efforts and talents in
the world of music. With accolades from many critics and peers alike, his
power to stay in the charts world wide and constantly produce pop singles has
gained him a reputation for longevity and talent.
