Che confirm Edu capture by Mark Kendall - created on 30 May 2005 -------------------------------------------- Valencia have revealed that they have clinched the signing of Arsenal midfielder Edu, and will also appoint Quique Flores as their new manager. Edu is entitled to a Bosman free move when his contract expires on June 30 having refused to pen a new deal at Highbury. A host of Spanish and Italian clubs are rumoured to have been monitoring the Brazilian with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Internazionale and Juventus all credited with an interest. However, at a press conference to confirm the appointment of Javier Subirats as their new director of sport, Valencia revealed they have won the race for his signature, and that the player would sign a five-year deal. "President (Juan Bautista) Soler has confirmed the signing of Edu, the Arsenal player and Brazil international, who will join the team on the first of July and who will play for the team in the next five seasons," a statement on the club's official website read. At the same conference, the Primera club also confirmed that Getafe boss Flores would take charge of first-team affairs next season. Flores, a former Valencia player, has attracted widespread praise for his efforts in keeping Getafe in the top-flight this term in his first major managerial post. The 40-year-old will return to the Mestalla to work in conjunction with Subirats as the Che attempt to revive their fortunes on the pitch following a disappointing season. After winning the Spanish title last term, Valencia missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification this time around and have had to make do with a Uefa Cup spot after ending up seventh - their worst finish since 1998. It seems likely there will be a number of changes to the playing staff this summer as well, as the club look to usher in a new era. 所以說...
