Joy Division Releasing BBC Sessions
They were way cooler than Bauhaus
Hunter Harris reports:
Goth bands come and goth bands go, but for the quintessential,
one need look no further than Joy Division,
a band which not only defined macabre post-punk in the late 1970s,
but also spawned the alternative dance band, New Order.
Just in time for Halloween,
Fuel 2000 Records is releasing Joy Division's Complete BBC Recordings today. In addition to 10 classic songs such as
"Love Will Tear Us Apart,"
"She's Lost Control," and "Colony," performed by the band at the BBC
before the death of vocalist Ian Curtis in 1980,
the disc will also feature an interview segment with Curtis and
drummer Stephen Morris. In an exclusive Pitchfork interview
conducted with Ian Curtis via Ouija, the legendary frontman revealed, "ABMNUOPX" and "Yes."
