Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval has broken her pouty silence with the
recent release of At the Doorway Again. The four-song EP is a collaboration
with former My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm O'Ciosoig, and has been
released under the name Hope Sandoval and the Warm Intentions. The two
began their collaboration after O'Ciosoig took up bass duties on
Mazzy Star's brief European tour this summer. Looks like Kevin Shields
isn't the only MBV-er craving a return to the limelight. Look for a
full-length album from the Warm Intentions to arrive sometime early
next year on UK label Rough Trade.
Meanwhile, Sandoval should be recording again with Mazzy Star in the
coming months. Over the summer, the band worked on a deal to return to
Rough Trade, their label before they cut the deal with Capitol Records
that spawned their last two releases. The long-overdue follow-up to
Among My Swan should follow sometime after the release of the
Warm Intentions album. Rough Trade is also planning on reissuing the
entire Mazzy Star catalog, along with the catalog of the band's
previous incarnation, Opal. So, basically, what this means is, on the
Chinese calendar, 2001 has been officially renamed "Year of the Mazzy."
