Massive Attack Labor in Studio, Sometimes Record
"See, the bass part goes here ... are there any Fritos left?"
Joe Tangari reports:
According to Massive Attack's official site,
they really are working on a follow-up to 1998's excellent Mezzanine,
but it probably won't be out until midway through next year.
Now down to a duo, the band claim that they have most of the instrumental
material set to go, but vocals still need to be added.
Expect vocal contributions from the band themselves, but also from
regular collaborators Liz Frazer and Andy Horace. Blur's Damon Albarn
is also said to be involved, but it appears unlikely that he will contribute
a performance; instead, he'll be co-writing one track.
Grantley Marshall promises that the album will contain
"chunkier, more upbeat tracks" and will range over wider stylistic
territory than the band's three previous efforts. The final product
should contain 12-15 songs, one of which will be titled "All Main Courses."
