Release Date Set for New Radiohead LP
PJ Harvey not expected to make an appearance
Brent DiCrescenzo reports:
Radiohead's fourth LP, Kid A, will finally see release on October 3rd.
Although dozens of songs were recorded over two years, only ten
made the final cut. However, perhaps influenced by the Beta Band
(listen to the new track "In Limbo" for further evidence to this),
Radiohead have toyed with the idea of releasing more songs
through a series of EPs. The album was kept intentionally short,
fearing a bloated Sandinista-like weight.
Definitely expect additional forthcoming releases.
Kid A sees Radiohead traveling in a more rhythmic direction.
Hypnotic organ and piano propel the new material, and
the percussion is given freer reign than before. Aside from
the "I think you're crazy" refrain of "Motion Picture Soundtrack,"
Kid A strays from pop structures in favor of intoxicating, groove-based no.
# "National Anthem" rides on a simple, thick-fuzz bassline.
# "Morning Bell" snaps with breakbeat drums.
Stand up bass, strings, and horns all make appearances,
# though recent live staples such as "Knives Out,"
"You and Whose Army," and "Nothing to Fear" didn't make the album.
And despite all the press leakings and public appearances,
# "Treefingers" and "Idioteque" remain unheard and unknown.

The story is a sad one, told many times.
The story of my life in trying times.
Just add water, stir in lime.
How the west was won and where it got us.
