Elliott Smith Brings Grandaddy On Tour, Mom worries he's too old to travel
Derrick Harder and Jeff Beck report:
Elliott Smith, folk-punk hero turned pop-sophisticate, will be touring
through the end of the year in support of his latest album, Figure 8.
Smith's European leg will extend to October 5th before he begins a 21-date
US tour and a final Japanese trip in December.
All European and U.S. shows will likely feature a full electric band, though
the Japanese shows will be solo and acoustic. For those of you reading this

in Japan. (We know you're out there-- we have high-tech surveillance

The real treat, however, will be Elliott's opening act on the U.S. leg of
the tour. Recent media darlings Grandaddy have actually postponed their
European tour to back up Smith on what will be one of the most grizzled

double-bills this fall. It seems that both parties are huge fans of each
other's work, and when Smith requested Grandaddy's accompaniment
they immediately bearded with excitement.
Current rumors suggest Smith's next release will return to an
indie-punk aesthetic, in response to the grand pop of his recent output.
