Soundtrack to "High Fidelity" Pretty Bitchin'
------- Scene with John Cusack digitally edited into lineup of Squirrel Bait
may not make final cut.. Amy Schmalz reports:
Anglophiles, music geeks and Nick Hornby fans are preparing for the March 31
release of the Hollywood screen adaptation of his 1996 novel "High Fidelity."
The novel was set among emotionally challenged 30-ish guys in a North London
record store. John Cusack acquired the rights, cast himself in the lead and
changed the setting to Chicago. Filming took place in the very neighborhood
of Pitchfork News Editor Brent DiCrescenzo.
And even the soundtrack isn't half English!
The anorak set are represented by tracks from
# the Beta Band ("Dry the Rain"),
# Smog ("Cold Blooded Old Times"),
# Stereolab ("Lo Boob Oscillator") and
# Royal Trux ("Inside Game").
The rest of the album is filled out by
classic music-geek fodder by such artists as
# Bob Dylan,
# Love,
# Velvet Underground and
# 13th Floor Elevators.
Look for the soundtrack to be released via Hollywood Records on March 28.

The story is a sad one, told many times.
The story of my life in trying times.
Just add water, stir in lime.
How the west was won and where it got us.
