said ahead of the Hanover Cup tie. A day after the match, and burning

desire was clearly still coursing through the players' veins.


During the five-a-side at the end of training, which featured a series

of hard challenges, Bixente Lizarazu and Niko Kovac swapped blows.

Assistant coach Michael Henke, vice-captain Giovane Elber and Sammy

Kuffour pulled the players apart, while Ottmar Hitzfeld broke off the

session.


The coach then summoned both miscreants to his office for a face-to-face

discussion, the result of which was an unspecified fine for repeat offender

Lizarazu, who had previously hit the headlines after slapping Lothar Matthaus

in training a few years ago.


Otherwise the coach viewed the incident as a good sign ahead of Saturday's

clash with reigning champions Dortmund: "It's obvious there's still plenty

of life in this team. We're full of fire ready for Borussia."
