Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has told compatriot Jens Lehmann that he should
not follow his example and quit playing for his country.
The Bayern Munich veteran announced his retirement from international football
after playing in Germany's 3-1 win over Portugal on Saturday.
Lehmann is reportedly mulling over his international future following the World
Cup but Kahn insists the Arsenal man should enjoy his time as the country's
number one.
"Each player has to make his own individual decision, but Jens has only just
become number one," he said.
"He played a great tournament and didn't make any mistakes.
I think he should carry on."
The 37-year-old added that he still felt he had a lot of football left in him
and was motivated as ever to perform for the German double winners.
"I will be committing myself to Bayern's goals," Kahn continued.
"I am still really looking forward to playing football and to the rest of
my career."
