Klinsmann, who has given Deisler more playing time in the last two weeks at the FIFA Confederations Cup than he got at Bayern in the final two months of the season, said he was proud of his improvement capped by a stellar effort against Argentina. But he added there were no guarantees for spots in Germany's talent-laden midfield. "We're very pleased with Sebastian Deisler's development," Klinsmann said on Wednesday after Germany drew 2-2 against Argentina late on Tuesday, a result that ensured Germany finished winners of Group A ahead of Saturday's semi-final. "He's constantly working hard to establish himself. He's really burning to take over a leading role on the team. He's in the midst of the process. We're incredibly proud that he's establishing himself so strongly. "He's put all those things from two years ago behind him," Klinsmann added of the 25-year-old. "He worked enormously hard and had a tremendous amount of power out there." With a luxury of midfield talent starting with Michael Ballack and extending to Bastian Schweinsteiger, Bernd Schneider and Torsten Frings, Klinsmann has said that everyone except captain Ballack has to fight for their position. "Every match offers a new snapshot, every match is a new battle for all of them," he said. Deisler, whose international career began with great promise in 2000, suffered a long string of knee injuries and then in 2003 was sidelined for much of the season after announcing he suffered from acute depression. He returned to Bayern later that season but suffered a brief relapse several months later in the autumn of 2004. After his second return, Bayern coach Felix Magath used Deisler only sparingly and even urged Klinsmann not to pick him. But Klinsmann, fully aware of Deisler's promise, turned a deaf ear to the calls from Munich and after bringing the increasingly robust looking Deisler on at half-time in several matches played him from the start in the last two outings. "There's going to be a competitive battle in every match to secure a place on the starting team," Klinsmann said. "And Sebastian is right smack in the middle of this tough battle." Deisler, whose growing confidence on the pitch is matched by his increasing stature when speaking to journalists, said he was happy to be getting so much playing time for a change. "I'm glad that I got to play the full 90 minutes for the last two matches," said Deisler, who in his seven-year Bundesliga career has played only 115 matches. He has 27 caps for Germany. "I think you need that to build up confidence." Despite the generally positive media reviews for his recent performances, Deisler said he was sure he could play better. "I'm never 100 percent satisfied with the way I played," Deisler said. "I always think there's room for improvement. But all in all I'd say the Argentina match was the best I've had." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.136.166.172
