GER-BRA: Players' Quotes
25 June 2005
by FIFAworldcup.com
Anheuser Busch Man of the Match Adriano (BRA) I'm delighted about the award
and very satisfied with the result, which we achieved as a team today. We're
headed in the right direction here. I honestly don't care who we meet in the
final, although obviously it would be fantastic to play against Argentina.
(Robert Huth) is physically very strong, but it was a difficult match for him
today against a powerful Brazilian team. We were very flexible in attack
today.
Gilberto (BRA)
I've been using the Confederations Cup to show the coach I have a place in
his tactical plan, and I'm confident I'll play for the Selec,a~o in the
coming season. Arne Friedrich is a fantastic player, very flexible and a
really tremendous guy. We had a good chat after the match and we get on well
on a personal level.
Cicinho (BRA)
I concentrated hard today. The mood in the dressing room is good. We played
better than Germany, although we had the crowd against us too. After this
victory, we're all fired up to give everything in the next match as well.
Dida (BRA)
It was a very tough match. We always believed we could win it, although
Germany have some good players and were supported by their home crowd.
Lucio (BRA)
It was a real thrill playing here in Germany. I know it wasn't the World Cup,
but it was just as tough. The positive mood in the dressing room carried us
to victory.
Per Mertesacker (GER)
We lost the match through one unfortunate piece of play, but otherwise we can
be proud of how we played. We have to eliminate the errors, but we'll go to
Leipzig with our confidence soaring. The third goal was very unlucky as
Adriano broke clear in front of goal. But we have to move on, take the
positives away with us, and put on one last show for the crowd.
Oliver Kahn (GER)
The Brazil team is made up of outstanding individuals, and we can learn a
thing or two from them. The weather was right up the Brazilians' street, but
it was a decent performance. We need to work on our discipline and make the
most of the few chances which come our way. We won't be thrown off course by
minor setbacks, although obviously it would have been even better to make the
final. We've played well under Jurgen Klinsmann. We'll beat the big names at
the World Cup.
Fabian Ernst (GER)
The conditions were tough for both teams today, but we still kept the pace
high. We're a little short on resolve and know-how. Not beating the big teams
is starting to get to us, and we're a little down at the moment. But we
weren't missing much, and we still have a year to go.
Jens Lehmann (GER)
We're missing that little bit extra against the best teams in the world. But
people have taken notice of how hard we're trying. We play in attractive
games with plenty of goals. That's not particularly great for a keeper, but
wonderful for the fans.
Robert Huth (GER)
We worked really hard in training for this match, but unfortunately we're
still out.
Michael Ballack (GER)
We didn't take the right decisions in the decisive situations. We have to
convert our chances. The supporters in Cologne, Frankfurt and Nuremberg have
been simply phenomenal throughout all four matches.
Sebastian Deisler (GER)
We're all a little down and disappointed. We were physically much fitter than
the Brazilians and we had the match under control. We know we have to keep on
developing, but we needn't fear anyone.
Oliver Bierhoff (Team manager GER)
The spectators have witnessed a fine match. We have to work on making more of
our good openings. We've seen what we're capable of, and recognised that
we're not the finished article yet. We have to work on controlling the game
and converting our chances, so we're more dangerous in the box. The
Brazilians tried to take the pace out of the game, but we tried to keep it
high.
Bernd Schneider (GER)
We all gave every last drop today. The reaction from the crowd told us they
recognised a good performance. We're determined to finish third and put on a
decent show for the fans. We have to put away one or two more of our chances.
At half-time, we said we should be keeping it a lot tighter as a team.
