A few weeks ago someone asked something about the story behind Isobel. Well, I was cleaning my closet today and found this interview she gave to a Brazilian newspaper (O Estado de S. Paulo - Dec. 95) - it愀 quite interesting, actually, at least the part about Isobel. I悲 translate the rest, but I really don愒 feel like it ;) reporter: What do you know about Brazilian music? Bjork: I悲 love to be introduced to more Brazilian music. I know something, but recently listened to a singer and it was the 1st time I had this feeling of identification. Her name is Elis Regina. I have a video of a show she held in Europe - it愀 just brilliant. My song Isobel is about her. Well, at least I wrote it thinking about her. reporter: What is the song about? Bjork: It愀 about this person who was born in a forest in Brazil. She was not conceived by a father or a mother, but by a spark that rose from the earth. When she grows older and becomes a woman, she realises that all these pebbles are in fact skyscrapers that just keep growing until they dominate the entire forest. This woman now has huge breasts and discovers she愀 guided by her intuition. Do you want to know how it ends? reporter: absolutely. Bjork: Well, she meets the skyscrapers, and they are awfully intelligent. That愀 when she gets involved with the wrong kind of people, and that leads her to isolation. That愀 why the song is called Isobel and not Isabel. Even isolated, she knows she can command her actions with her intuition. So what she does is send an army of moth against the windows of those skyscrapers, because they are using their intelligence way too much. So that愀 when the skyscrapers start screaming na, na, na, na, which is the song愀 chorus. So people think: "I惻l quit being smart." All this may sound a little weird, but that愀 the trip I made to write the lyrics to the song. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.twbbs.org) ◆ From: sun24.ccunix.cc
