Chin-Lung Hu continued to tear apart Pacific Coast League pitching by going
3-for-3 with a two-run triple as Las Vegas topped visiting Portand, 9-7, on
Tuesday. Hu started his fourth straight three-hit game with a single and scored in the
first inning. His triple in the second put the 51s (45-51) on top, 6-2,
before he singled in the fourth and walked in the sixth.
The MVP of the All-Star Futures game is 14-for-26 with three homers, 10 RBIs
and 10 runs scored in six games since he was promoted from Double-A
Jacksonville.
Andy LaRoche went 2-for-3 with a double, solo homer, two RBIs and two runs
scored for Las Vegas.
Reliever Casey Hoorelbeke (3-3) picked up the win, despite allowing two runs
on two hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings. Eric Hull fanned the final
batter to notch his eighth save and secure the 51s' seventh straight win.
Starter Dwayne Pollok gave up two runs -- one earned -- on three hits in
three frames.
Portland starter Mike Thompson (2-8) surrendered all nine runs on 10 hits in
five innings. Relievers Jared Wells and Roger Deago combined for three
hitless frames.
Drew Macias went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs, while Peter Ciofrone
and Ray Chang each scored twice for the Beavers (41-56).
