case study內文

    A 10-year-old boy was brought in by his father for evaluation of crampy
abdominal pain, nausea, and mild diarrhea that had persisted for approximately
2 weeks. On the day before evaluation, the boy reported to his parents that he
passed a large worm into the toilet during a bowel movememt. He flushed the
worm before the parents could see it. Physical examination was completely
unremarkable. The boy had no fever, cough, or rash and did not complain of anal
pruritus. His travel history was unremarkable. Examination of a stool specimen
revealed the diagnosis.

Question:
1.      Which intestinal parasites of human are nematodes?
2.      Which nematode was likely in this case? What organisms may be found in
        stool?
3.      What was the most likely means of acquisition of this parasite?
4.      Was this patient at risk of autoinfection?
5.      Describe the life cycle of this parasite.
6.      Can this parasite cause extraintestinal symptoms? What other organs
        may be invaded and what might stimulate extraintestinal invasion?
