NEW YORK -- Bobby Abreu extended his season-best hitting streak to
11 games with a three-run homer in the first inning, and the
Yankees won their seventh game in a row, 4-1, over the Arizona
Diamondbacks at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.
Chien-Ming Wang pitched seven innings for the win, giving up six
hits and one run while striking out two and walking none.
Arizona designated hitter Chad Tracy homered off Wang in the
fourth, a solo shot to right field. It was the first time Wang had
given up a home run since May 5, against Seattle.
Brandon Webb, the D-backs' 2006 Cy Young recipient, took the loss
after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in seven
innings. He struck out four and walked two.
The Yankees tacked on their fourth run in the seventh after Hideki
Matsui walked and advanced to third on a double by Robinson Cano.
With two in scoring position, Melky Cabrera hit a fielder's
choice to second baseman Orlando Hudson, who threw to first. The
D-backs caught Cano off second base for a double play as Matsui
scooted home.
Reliever Kyle Farnsworth gave up a double to Arizona shortstop
Stephen Drew to lead off the eighth, but the right-hander finished
the inning unscathed in relief of Wang.
Mariano Rivera closed it out for the Yankees in the ninth.
