: NEW YORK — When the Yankees signed Roger Clemens last month, it was under
: the premise he'd be only part of the solution and not carry the team. Over
: his last two starts, it appears that Chien-Ming Wang has assumed the role of
: staff ace.

: when he neutralized the Diamondbacks and paced the Yankees to a 4-1 win.
: Though Tuesday was the first time D-Backs manager Bob Melvin had seen Wang in
: person, it was enough for him to put Wang in place with Webb and Toronto's
: Roy Halladay as the game's premier sinkerball pitchers.

: The funny thing is, Wang thought he was only "so-so." He complained about
: leaving too many balls up, which deviated from his strength. Out of his 24
: batters retired, just seven were via the ground ball, but it was still enough
: to hold Arizona to one run over seven innings that followed a complete game
: last Wednesday in Chicago. In his last six starts, Wang has allowed three
: earned runs or fewer, good for a 2.30 ERA during that stretch.

: turned into a solo home run in the fourth, the first he allowed since
: Seattle's Ben Broussard broke up his perfect game bid on May 5, and a run of
: 47 1/3 innings covering six starts. Yet thanks Bobby Abreu's timely hitting
: and Derek Jeter's defense gem, Wang's record improved to 6-4 and the Yankees
: reached a significant milestone this season, .500. New York won its seventh
: straight, its longest since a 10-game run May 7-17, 2005, and brought its
: record to sea level for the first time since 16-16 on May 9.

: AL East on May 29. While both Abreu and Jeter shrugged at .500, there's a
: belief that this stretch of baseball isn't transitory.

: "When you win, you don't feel like you're going to lose. And that's the
: interesting part about it," said Joe Torre. "Tonight you knew you were going
: to have your hands full because of who you were facing."

: hit-and-run, perfectly executed when Arizona shortstop Stephen Drew ran to
: cover the bag and Jeter poked the ball into the open hole. Abreu then planted
: a 0-1 pitch into the right field bleachers, a three-run shot that
: emphatically ended Webb's scoreless innings streak at 16 1/3.
這場比賽第一個 - 同時也是Torre認為最重要的關鍵是一局下半Jeter完美的打跑戰術，
他準確地將球打到游擊手Stephen Drew因補位二壘而產生的漏洞，形成穿越安打。隨後阿

: "If you score runs for him, it's going to make him more comfortable on the
: mound," Abreu said. "He already knows what to do when he's ahead."
: Because Webb left a sinker up, Abreu smoked it and Wang was able to relax.
: Tracy's homer was the only extra base he allowed the rest of the night.

: Jeter's leaping grab prevented a run-scoring single. When the two exchanged
: smiles, Wang told him "Good job." Jeter replied that he did him a favor.

問問Jeter給不給。

: "I just told him thanks for not letting him hit it on the ground, because I
: might have gotten killed if he hit it on the ground," Jeter said.

: It's been the Yankees who've been doing the pounding, but they've been
: winning thanks to their pitching. And if you don't think Wang's been front

: "This whole streak is based on how well we pitch," Torre said. "And Wang did
