其實這篇來自Mark Feinsand的blog August 26 2007 Wang will play major role in wild card race Chien-Ming Wang gave the Yankees exactly what they needed last night. In addition, Wang also showed the Yankees that he could be a big factor down the stretch, as he looked like the Cy Young runner-up from a year ago. Wang gave up one earned run in eight innings, using his deadly sinker to get 11 ground ball outs, including a pair of double plays. It was as good a game as we’ve seen from Wang in about seven weeks, not counting his gem against the lowly Royals on Aug. 3. Wang is now 15-6 with a 3.97 ERA, and with seven starts left in his season, he has a good chance to match his 19 victories from 2006. He won’t be in the Cy Young race, but he can certainly play a major role in the wild card race, as the Yankees find themselves two games behind the Mariners once again. Since May 7 of last year, Wang has 33 wins, the most in the majors. His ERA might not match the likes of Johan Santana, Brandon Webb or some of the league’s other top pitchers, but aren’t wins the bottom line? Wang is also 14-3 with an ERA around 3.75 since May 16, the most wins in the majors since that time. If he hadn’t missed the first three weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, there’s a good chance that he would have 17 or 18 wins. Not bad for a third-year pitcher.
