標題[外電] A-Rod, Yankees sink Mariners
時間Wed Sep 5 13:03:36 2007
Timely hitting, a well-pitched game, an Alex Rodriguez moon shot
into the upper deck in left and, of course, their friendly
neighborhood squirrel. (有提到幸運松鼠喔!)
Those were the keys to the Yankees' 12-3 win over the Mariners on
Tuesday night, a much-needed victory that put some space between
New York and Seattle in the wild card race.
The Yankees gained back the game they lost on Monday, moving two games
ahead of the Mariners for the American League's final postseason berth.
The two teams meet tonight for the final time this season, as Phil Hughes
faces Jarrod Washburn.
With the squirrel looking down from atop right-field foul pole for the
second time in a week, Chien-Ming Wang pitched 7 1/3 stellar innings,
allowing one run on five hits to record his major league-leading 17th win.
A-Rod had hit the facing of the upper deck in left in June but his one-out
shot in the sixth landed seven rows deep into the section. Bobby Abreu also
homered and Jorge Posada blasted home runs to left and right as the Yankees
pounded out 18 hits after being held to four total runs in their last three
losses.
Abreu and Robinson Cano each had four hits, while Posada, A-Rod and Wilson
Betemit also recorded multi-hit games.
Horacio Ramirez might have entered the game with a bloated 6.55 ERA, but he
had already shown the Yankees how tough he could be this season, limiting them
to one run over 6 1/3 innings in a May 13 win in Seattle.
Ramirez held the Yankees to one run over the first five innings before giving
up three in the sixth. He was charged with four runs (three earned) in 5 2/3
innings.
Posada staked his battery mate to a lead with a leadoff home run against
Ramirez in the second inning, belting a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall
for his 17th of the year.
Wang, who took a perfect game into the eighth inning against the Mariners in
a May 5 win at the Stadium, picked up right where he left off in his second
start of the season against Seattle.
Wang breezed through the first four innings, allowing just a leadoff single
by Raul Ibanez in the second inning. After retiring 12 of the first 13 batters
- nine of them on ground balls - Wang opened the fifth with back-to-back walk
s of Adrian Beltrre and Ben Broussard, setting up his first jam of the night.
Kenji Johjima singled to left, as Seattle third-base coach Carlos Garcia waved
Beltre around. Hideki Matsui fielded the ball and fired home, his throw
landing just in front of Posada. The catcher made a perfect play on the
one-hopper, tagging Beltre on his foot for the first out of the inning.
One pitch later, Wang induced a 5-4-3 double play off the bat of Jose Lopez,
escaping the jam to the loud approval of 52,487.

The Mariners threatened again in the sixth, as Ichiro Suzuki and Jose Vidro
hit consecutive one-out singles to put the go-ahead runners on base. Wang
went back to his trademark sinker, getting Jose Guillen to ground into an
inning-ending double play.
The Yankees gave Wang some breathing room in the bottom of the sixth,
starting with A-Rod's titanic solo shot, which he launched into the upper
deck in left field. Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit added RBI singles to
boost the lead to 4-0, driving Ramirez from the game.
Beltre ended Wang's shutout with a one-out home run in the seventh, then
Wang walked Broussard. But before the Mariners could mount another rally,
Wang induced his third straight inning-ending DP, getting Johjima to ground
into a 6-4-3.
The Bombers broke it open in the seventh, knocking three Seattle relievers
around for seven runs to make it an 11-1 game. Shelley Duncan and Cano each
had two-run hits in the inning, while Melky Cabrera, Derek Jeter and Abreu
also contributed RBI hits.
在講第八局為何只投一個人次第 雖然才總共用86球
Wang came back out for the eighth, retiring pinch-hitter Jeremy Reed with
a ground ball, the pitcher's 17th of the game. But there was some confusion
as the next batter stepped to the plate, as Posada and home plate umpire
Greg Gibson motioned to the Yankees' dugout. Joe Torre came out and removed
Wang although he had thrown just 86 pitches, handing the big lead over to
the bullpen.
Posada說王沒有受傷啦! 只是洋基隊讓他等太久了^^
Posada said Wang was not injured, just stiff from sitting on the bench
during the Yankee surge.
