For Chien-Ming Wang, return to the rotation provides a sense of relief

NEW YORK -- Nearly seven weeks after an embarrassing string of outings cost
him his spot in the rotation, Yankees right-hander Chien-Ming Wang will start
on Thursday against the Rangers.

"I'm happy to be back as a starter, " Wang said. "I'm 100 percent back."


Wang went to the disabled list on April 24 with adductor muscle weakness in
his hips, a condition that doctors said stemmed from the foot injury that
ended his year last season. But Wang has looked healthy in his last two
relief outings, during which he's combined to throw five shutout innings.

"That's when we legitimately starting discussing (his return), " Yankees
general manager Brian Cashman said. "You know what? Those are five shutout
innings, he looks real good, he feels strong about himself. He's a starter
and he's someone who's got a huge history of nothing but success. Now he's
healthy, and he looks right, he feels right."

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the team needed to make the move. Girardi
said waiting any longer would have made it difficult for Wang to maintain
enough arm strength to work as a starter. On Thursday, he will be limited
to 75-80 pitches.

吉總說，球隊必須做個決定，他說再等下去會使王建民無法保持可以先發的手臂力量。
星期四王建民大約會被限制在75～80球左右。

Right-hander Phil Hughes, who has pitched well, will head to the bullpen,
though he will not be available until Friday.

休斯到牛棚，不過他要直到星期五才會可以上場。


"I knew something had to give eventually with the way Wang has been pitching
out of the bullpen," Hughes said. "He looks like he's back to his normal
self. So that left me as the odd man out. I'll do whatever the team needs
and right now, that's being in the bullpen."

「我知道這一天將會來到，因為最近王建民的後援表現，他看起來就像是之前的他一樣，
所以那使得我成為那個離開的人，但我會完成球隊給予我的任何任務，現在，
是後援投手。」休斯說。

Wang's ERA had soared to 34.50 after his first three starts. But after
three relief appearances, Wang lowered his ERA to 16.07.
