NEW YORK --
Injured Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming Wang said he has an appointment with
renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Monday to inspect his right
shoulder.
He is scheduled to throw a rehabilitation game by April or May, he said
inside the Yankee Stadium clubhouse on Friday following the team's World
Series parade.
Wang underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery in June. Before that,
he was disastrous on the mound, going 1-6 with a 9.64 ERA. Injuries have
dogged Wang for some time now. He spent a stint on the disabled list in
May before heading back in July. A foot injury cut his 2008 season short.
Not being a part of the World Series victory made him “sad,” Wang said,
but he hopes to return to the team next year. The Yankees have the option
to tender him a contract or release him into free agency.
