MINNEAPOLIS, June 5 - The recent effectiveness of the rookie starter
Chien-Ming Wang and the recent ineffectiveness of almost everyone else
in the Yankees' rotation leave Manager Joe Torre and the pitching coach
Mel Stottlemyre with a problem that will not be easy to fix.

相較最近其他先發投手的的表現不佳, 王建民近來的優異表現給了洋基的總教練
Joe Torre與投手教練Mel Stottlemyre一個不易解決的難題.

Last week, Stottlemyre plotted the Yankees' rotation through the end of
the month, with Wang the odd man out when someone needed to be skipped.

上個禮拜, 在Stottlemyre規劃到月底的輪值表當中, 王建民是如果有需要跳過先
發時的唯一人選.

But Wang has made such an impression on Torre, especially after stopping
the Yankees' six-game losing streak on Saturday night, that the Yankees
may reconsider.

然而, 王建民的傑出表現讓Torre印象深刻, 尤其在星期六晚上中止洋基六連敗,

"We have enough information now to know he's legitimate, not an overnight
wonder," Torre said. "We're going to look and see what we have. He's

Torre used the word super to describe Wang's poised pitching over seven
innings Saturday, when he regrouped after Jacque Jones's three-run homer
in the fourth - the only runs he allowed - to retire 12 of the final 13
batters he faced.

Catcher John Flaherty, who called the pitch (a changeup), reacted with more
distress than Wang, leaning forward with his hands on his knees. Wang
simply stood on the mound and waited for Flaherty to throw him a new ball.

But it will be tough to slot Wang without disturbing the routines of the
four veterans in the rotation. Wang's next turn falls on Thursday, a day
off. And with another day off next Monday, the Yankees do not need a fifth
starter until the middle of the month. They are committed to starting
Randy Johnson every fifth day, which he prefers.

要放進王建民而不影響到其他四位投手的輪值是相當困難的. 王建民的下次先發本來
應該在星期四, 但恰好是移動日. 接下來下週一又是休息日, 因此洋基到月中之前是
不需要第五號先發上場的. 而洋基也答應Randy Johnson每五天規律出場, 這正是他
所想要的.

Carl Pavano, who starts Tuesday in Milwaukee, has been ineffective his past
two starts and could be a candidate to be skipped if he pitches poorly again.
預計星期二出場對上密爾瓦基釀酒人的Carl Pavano, 由於前兩次先發的差勁表現,
如果他再投得不好, 可能就會是下次跳過先發的對象.
