Yankees try to connect four


The Yankees recorded an important win on Monday, defeating the Mariners
for their third consecutive victory. It marked the team's first three-
game winning streak of the year, giving them an opportunity to make it
four straight on Tuesday night against Seattle.

"We're not sitting around, counting how many games we've won in a row,"
said Derek Jeter. "It's more important to just play well night after
night."

The Bombers have done that in each of the past three days, getting superb
efforts from their starting pitchers, timely hits when they need them and
flawless relief pitching.

"It feels good, but we don't want to get ahead of ourselves," said Jorge
Posada. "We're playing good ball, doing the things to win ballgames."

Rookie Chien-Ming Wang looks to bounce back from his first loss, a 6-2
beating by the Devil Rays last Thursday. That night, Wang took the mound
trying to put a stop to the Yankees' two-game losing streak. Tuesday,
he will try to extend the team's winning streak, a more enviable position
for a young pitcher.

"We all feel good, because the pitching seems to be controlling the game,"
said manager Joe Torre. "I certainly like the fact that we're going in with
the kid tomorrow after winning three in a row instead of putting the
pressure on him like we did the last time."
