2004 Columbus Clippers Pitching Prospect Review

Chien-Ming Wang - RHP

 Wang earned a lot of press after being signed as an high-priced international
free agent out of Taiwan back in the 2000 season.
 After a somewhat disappointing season in 2003 for Trenton (7-6, 4.65 ERA),
Wang bounced right back on to the prospect radar with a very good season in
2004 in two stops between Trenton and Columbus.

 Wang's peripherals has always supported the notion that he was going to be a
fine pitcher and that was certainly the case this past season. His strikeout-to
-walk ratio was just about 4 to 1 all year long and his first taste of AAA-ball
could not have gone any better. He held opposing batters to a .215 average and
gave up less than one base runner per inning in six appearances for Columbus.

 Wang is still only 24 years old and could use one more year of seasoning at
AAA. If he duplicates the same success the Yankees are going to find it hard to
test him at the Major League level.
