No decision for Wang, but a major assist

Chien-Ming Wang never will be confused with Nolan Ryan for his
strikeout totals. And he'll probably never get mentioned in the
same sentence with Roger Clemens when the discussion turns to
throwing the splitter.

談到三振數，王建民可能永遠不會被誤認成 Nolan Ryan。談到投Splitter

But after last night's gem of an outing against Baltimore, both
pitching on and bouncing off the mound, you just might hear
Wang's name in the same conversation as, say, Jason Kidd.
Last night Wang, in just his third start since being reinstated
from the disabled list with shoulder inflammation, mesmerized
the Orioles by allowing just two runs and seven hits over eight
innings along with a stunning nine assists.

但是，在昨晚對 Baltimore的激戰之後（投手丘上下都跑遍了．．）

昨晚，王建民在傷後復出的第三場先發比賽中讓對手目不轉睛，八局失兩

"The thing I saw from him that made us all smile in the dugout
 were all the ground balls," Joe Torre said after the Yankees
pulled within a half game of division-leading Boston. "When
he's down like that you feel pretty comfortable."

Wang struggled a bit in the first and third innings, with the
Orioles scoring a run in each stanza. But for the rest of the
game he was brilliant. After allowing three hits in the first
inning, Wang settled down and yielded just four hits the rest
of the way, walking one and fanning three.

王建民在一三局分別遇上小亂流，讓對手分別攻下一分。除此之外，
他表現相當出色。在首局被擊出三支安打後，他穩住陣腳，在接下來
的比賽中只被擊出另外四支安打，還有一個保送三次三振。

"(In the first inning) the balls were high," said Wang, who
matched his career high by going eight innings. "The sinkers
didn't sink."

王建民說：第一局球投得比較高， Sinkers　沉不下去。他在這場比
賽中投出生涯最長局數，８局。

But from there on it was almost as if Wang wanted to take care
of the Birds single-handedly. Even Torre was amazed at the
ground Wang covered around the mound.

但是，從那之後，王建民的表現讓人覺得他想要一個人就料理掉對手，
即使是 Torre　也被相當驚訝看到他在投手丘上全方位的表現。

"There were a couple of fast runners that hit balls off to the
side of the mound," Torre said. "He was a cat coming off the
mound."

Wang's nine assists, surprisingly, were neither a team nor
major league milestone. The record of 11 assists is held by
five different pitchers, including the New York Highlanders' Al
Orth in 1906 and George McConnell in 1912.

令人訝異的是，王建民的九次助殺，竟然不算入Yankees球隊甚至是大聯盟
的紀錄。歷史上創下１１次助殺的共有五位投手，包括1906年New York
Highlander投手 Al Orth與1912年的 George McConnell。

So while he didn't find his way into the record books, Wang
might just have found himself a more permanent spot in Torre's
rotation, especially with the availability of Mike Mussina and
Jaret Wright still in question.

看來，雖然這個表現無法進入官方排行榜，王建民仍然可以在 Torre
的投手調度名單上留下一個顯著的位子，特別是在 Mike Mussina與
Jaret Wright　兩人的戰力仍掛問號的現在。

"Hopefully we'll have a tough decision to make," Torre
 said. "Obviously this is Wang's best since he's been back. We
know what he's capable of because the first half (of the
season) he was terrific for us."

Torre說：我們可能會有個很艱難的決定要考慮，很明顯的，這是
王建民歸隊後最好的一場比賽。從之前的表現我們看得出來，他是
隊上相當搶眼的一員。
