Elephant's Magic Number 1!
Orlando Roman shuts out the Bulls as Elephants Triumph!
Orlando Roman pitched a 120-pitch shut out tonight and brought the Elephants
another win in the Taiwan Series. The Elephants bagged their third win by
defeating the Bulls 3-0, and are just one-game away from clinching the 2010
Taiwan Series.
Game 3 of Taiwan Series started in rain soaked Taoyuan International Stadium
tonight after the ground keepers fought to keep the field playable after an
entire day of rain. The Elephants sent Orlando Roman to the mound, while the
Bulls had Y.C. Lin on the hill in an effort to lift the Bulls from their
2-game deficit.
Both teams had scoring opportunities during the first few innings, but
neither was able to score. In the top of the fifth the Elephants first got in
scoring position with a double by C.H. Chang, and veteran catcher “Bumblebee
the Transformer” C.C. Yeh managed a Texas leaguer driving in the first run
for the Elephants. It is also the third time (in as many games) in the Series
that the Elephants notched a run first.
The Bulls had an opportunity in the top of the six. Wih two outs, the Bulls
loaded the base with one hit and two walks, however, Roman struck out C.H.
Cheng to leave the bases loaded, securing the one-run lead for the Elephants.
In the seventh the Elephants reached third again, which caused the Bulls to
pull the starter and for M.C. Tsai after switching a couple of defensive
players. The Elephants then managed to load the bases with two consecutive
walks, but M.C. Tsai walked out of the inning untouched by striking out the
following two Elephants players to end the inning.
In bottom of the eighth the Elephants scored an insurance run on hits by “
Cowboy” S.C. Chou and “Big-Head” S.H. Huang, thus knocking out Bulls the
reliever. With two out and a runner on third, C.H. Chang knocked in another
run for the Elephants to make the score 3-0. Roman came into the ninth and
retired the side, completing his 3-hit gem and was elected MVP of the game.
Game 4 will be held at Hsinchuang Stadium Wednesday night. The Winner of the
Taiwan Series will face SK Wyverns, the 2010 Korea KBO Championship Series
winner, who clinched just hours before the Elephants won the game tonight.
