BIO: Raised in 1960s Miami,by age 16 Caine had experienced a lifetime: Civil
Rights Marches,Cuban freedom flights,violent race riots,and the rise of drug
culture.
His mother,a single parent in a time that did not favor such a definition of
Oamily,Otaught Caine that strength resided in your mind,not your hand.Though
she was demanding,her love protected him untill she was killed by a drug dealer
that she stood up to.At 17,while other teenagers were learning to disco.Caine
set out to help the police find her killer.By the time the murderer was
sentenced to life.Caine knew he had found his calling to protect his city.
Caine entered the Police Academy after high school.but quickly discovered that
the beat left him bored.When he realized that the evidence-creacking CSIs were
the people who actually solved the Crimes,he enrolled in university and,four
years later,Chemistry degree in hand,he was a Level 1 Criminalist with the
Miami-Dade Police Department.
Rising quickly through the ranks,Caine grew frustrated with departmental
bureaucracy and threatened to quit.Al Humphries came to his rescue by offering
to train him as his second-in-command with the Bomb Squad.Humphries became the
father figure Caine had never had.
When Megan Donner stepped down as head of the Crime Lab.the Police chief asked
Caine to take over.Although he had thrivd as a member of the Bomb Squad,Caine
missed what had drawn him to police work in the first place the science of
catching the obad guy.OHe accepted the position.
A three-dimensional thinker,Caine can rapidly understand how pieces fit into
a puzzle.He knows that science ultimately provides the solution,but he also
knows that there is more to crime-solving than blood spatter and DNA.When it
comes to protecting his city,Horatio doesn't just trust science and he trusts

標題: Haratio 角色設定的大致翻譯

好像很多人在爭論為什麼 Haratio 這麼像警察，小弟大致把角色的設定做了初
步的翻譯。



Horatio 其實真的是警察出身...

高中畢業 -> 警察學校 (不知道有沒唸完) -> 佛羅理達州立大學化學系 ->
Miami-Dade 郡警局第一級犯罪偵查員 -> 拆彈小組副指揮官 -> Crime Lab 組長(註4)

在 CSI: Miami 的設定當中：

Horatio (後文簡稱 H)出身自單親家庭，17歲的時候，母親死於毒販手下。當同儕
都忙著玩樂的時後，H 卻幫助了警察找出殺害他母親的兇手，也因為如此，H 找到
了他的志向。高中畢業後加入警校，但很快地他就覺得這樣子的生活步調跟他所想
像的不太一樣，再加上他發現其實真正偵破案件的關鍵人物是那些窮追不捨的 CSI
們，於是他決定去念大學。咻～四年後，他拿到了化學的學士學位。大學畢業後，
他再度加入 Miami-Dade PD，擔任第一級的 Criminalist (暫譯為犯罪偵查員。)(註1)

隨著好表現，H 在階級上面竄升地很快。但是爬得愈高，他也對這些層層地官僚體
系深感沮喪，甚至還萌生退意。就在此時，Humpries跳出來拉了 H 一把，把 H
帶進 Bomb Squd (拆彈小組)，訓練 H 成副手。而隨著這份情誼， Humpries (註2)
也成為了 H 生命中所一直欠缺的父親形象的代言人(簡單說就是情誼如父啦)。

而當 Megan Donner 因故離開 Crime Lab 之後，Miami-Dade PD的警察局長詢問 H
接掌 Crime Lab 的意願。雖然 H 在拆彈小組的生涯非常有前途，但是 H 一想到
他最初就是因為科學鑑識的原因才踏入警界服務，既然現在有這個機會讓他重回偵
辦案件的領域，他當然也就接受了這個職位。

身為一個多面向的思考者，H 常能很快地將碎裂的線索拼湊成一個完整的謎團。
雖然 H 知道案件的偵辦最終一定需要科學的證據來佐證，但是他更瞭解除了血跡、
DNA之外，還有更重要的事情來協助他們破案。當牽涉到公理與正義的時候，H 不僅
只相信科學證據，他也相信他自己的膽量。(註3)

註1: 我找不到文字資料說明 Criminalist 的主要職責是什麼，但是其實應該就是
     影集中看到的 CSI 工作。推測在 Forida 州的法律中，Crimianlist 應該算
     是警務人員。
     相較於 Las Vegas Crime Lab 的 CSI 們，比較像是公務人員，他們比較像是
     科學家。

註2: CSI: Miami 1x02 就是講他的故事。
註3: 其實原文是 He trust his guts ，這也就解釋了為什麼 H 這麼熱血，超帶種
     的啦。

H 的角色設定，版主有收進精華區，小弟只是翻個大概，沒有很認真地逐字翻譯，
採意譯為主，如果怕被小弟詼諧的語氣誤導，可以進精華區自己研究一下。


註1: 組長的英文是 Lieutenant，一般而言，在美國的警界來說。
     Chief: 通常翻成局長，就是整個市警局的老大。
     Captain: 通常翻『隊長』，大概就是管轄一個分局的最大職位。
     Lieutenant: 通常翻為『副隊長』，就是分局的二當家囉。

     Detective: 通常翻『警探』，就是負責偵辦刑案的警察。
                像是 Detective Hegan (小綿羊的約會對象)。
     Officer: 一般的制服員警。
     Sergeant: 這個職稱在 CSI: Miami 很少出現，通常是比較老一
               點的制服員警。

     Officer (一般巡邏)-> 老一點 Sergeant ->再老 Lieutenant -> Captain
             (適合刑案)-> 老一點 Detective -> 再老 Lieutenant -> Captain

     Lientenant 其實可以是隊長或副隊長，反正就是官職的一種，
     每一州的警察體系都不太一樣啦。有興趣的人可以自己研究一下。

     除了警察的體系很混亂以外，美國的執法單位真的很多，很雜。
     隨便舉例，光整個大 LA 地區就有 LAPD，LA County Sheriff，
     California Highway Patrol這些警察單位。
     再加上屬於聯邦單位的 FBI、CIA、DEA(緝毒署)、ATF(聯邦菸酒
     管制局)、US Marshals(聯邦法警，負責犯人移送戒護)。如果總
     統有來的話，再加一個 Secret Service(密勤局)。

     以上還沒算到美國海關、移民局甚至是 US Coast Guard。幾乎每
     一種執法單位都有影集或電影。
     真的，研究了那麼久還是沒辦法完全看得懂美國執法單位的組織。
