Take virtual girlfriend on real-world date with 3DS

Many Nintendo 3DS owners in Japan have been waiting with bated breath for the
three-dimensional and augmented-reality version of "Love Plus," which was a
phenomenon on the original DS not too long ago. Remember that story about
some guy who married a video game character? Yup, that's the one.

What made the original so notable was how involved the experience was. There
have been countless dating sims that all strived for realism, but the first
"Love Plus" took things to a whole new level.

Example: If you made a date with one of the game's three girls at 5 p.m., you
didn't simply press a button to fast-forward to the next scene and start the
date. No, you had to wait until it was really 5 o'clock. The time and date
applied to your actual existence, and forgetting to pop open your DS at 5 in
real life meant standing up your virtual date. True, you could fiddle with
the internal clock of the system, but that would be cheating, wouldn't it?

One of many enhancements that the 3DS version promises is the ability to tap
into the hardware's augmented-reality capabilities. Which means going to
real-life locales this time around, instead of just lounging around your
house:

As gaming news site Andriasang explains, the new "Anywhere Date" mode allows
you to insert your virtual gal pal into the real world. Not only will it
appear as if she's standing wherever you point the 3DS camera, she'll also
interact with the environment; if there's a bench nearby, she'll sit on it.

And there's a decent chance, due to the game's use of motion tracking, that
one might be able to sit next to one's 3DS-driven date, to get up close and
personal. An example of these capabilities can be seen in the early part of
the trailer shown at the Tokyo Game Show, late last year:

Andriasang also goes on to describe the "Anywhere Date Editor," which can be
used to get your lady friend to perform certain flirtatious (but not sexually
explicit) actions, in order to craft custom dates. The dates can be recorded
and shared with other users, and everyone can vote on who had the hottest
date. The list of actions has yet to be divulged, but one can only imagine.
