Despite reaching the top spot in the unofficial “Top Ten” list entitled
 “Singers You’d Like to Perform at the 2012 London Olympics Opening
Ceremonies“,Hatsune Miku will not be considered to perform at the Summer
 Olympics that run from July 27 to August 12 this year.

In an email reply to YouTube user jnaful, the London Olympic Committee has
 confirmed that the roster for performers at the opening and closing events
 has already been set, and they will not be making any changes this close to
the event.

In response to a Youtube video urging fans to vote for Miku,
jnaful said:

“For all those who still believe this poll is legitimate – it’s not. I
voted too, but some person just put it up there.However, I figured that if
we contacted the London committee about the possibility of her performing
in the opening ceremonies they would consider her, and I did email them.
 They wrote me this:

‘Unfortunately, at this stage we cannot consider unsolicited project ideas
which fall outside our planned activity. Please note, project ideas received
outside of such planned activity are only communicated to certain members of
 staff who have no contact with our creative department, and the ideas are not
 sent any further. This procedure is put in place to ensure that no submitted
 ideas are unintentionally used in any of our campaigns.’”

As a follow-up to this story I contacted Crypton Future Media (Miku’s owner)
for feedback.On May 8, 2012 they confirmed to me that they have not received
any offers from the London Olympic Committee.

Although Hatsune Miku fans will be heartbroken at the news, they can take
comfort in knowing that Miku’s showing in the unofficial poll clearly
demonstrates that Miku is already #1 for millions of people worldwide.
 Given that she may be singing in English as early as this
Spring, her chances of performing at an Olympic ceremony will be much better
by the time we see the 2014 winter Olympics in Russia,or the 2016 summer
Olympics in Brazil.
