Italy striker Luca Toni claims he's just missing a little bit
of luck as his worrying goal drought continues.
The Fiorentina ace was recalled to the side which
beat Australia 1-0 on Monday, but wasted a number of
golden opportunities to open his World Cup account.
“I do miss scoring goals and that is obvious seeing as I am a forward,”
said the Serie A top scorer. “I've not been that fortunate,
but I'm sure my luck will change.

“I went close against Australia and can't wait to do my goal celebration,
but the important thing for a striker is to get into those positions,
as that means you're doing something right.

“I try to hold up the ball too and worked well with Alberto Gilardino,
so it's not all bad. This was a victory by the whole squad and
it was a show of character.”

A spirited Italian outfit booked their last eight ticket
with a late penalty, won by Fabio Grosso and scored by Francesco Totti,
despite Marco Materazzi's dismissal.
“It was a very good first half performance and unfortunately
we didn't make the most of four or five chances,” he added.

“We did well to win even after that red card and
didn't really allow Australia any shots on goal.
Fabio was excellent in inventing this move and earning the penalty.”

Gilardino on the offensive

Alberto Gilardino has conceded that the Azzurri's lack of killer instinct
in front of goal almost cost them dearly against Australia.
The Azzurri were clearly creating the more
dangerous scoring opportunities in Monday's last 16 clash,
but only went through 1-0 thanks to a Francesco Totti penalty
after they had also been reduced to 10 men.
“We created plenty of chances in the first half,
but were a little unlucky and not too clinical,
so we didn't get the goal,” he stated.
“Thankfully, we kept our cool after the red card
and in the end got the win.”
Gilaridno說：「我們上半場創造了許多機會，可惜不太走運也不夠客觀，
所以沒能進球，好在我們在紅牌之後很冷靜，最後才能贏球。」
Boss Marcello Lippi reintroduced the attacking trident of Gilardino,
Luca Toni and Alessandro Del Piero for the tie and Gila admits
they did experience some initial difficulties.
“We changed tactics with Luca in the centre and me spreading out
a little more, but it's fairly natural for me to go towards the middle,”
he added.

“Perhaps we were a little too central at times instead of
pushing the play wide and are still working on this system.

“Australia were very careful and packed the midfield,
so it wasn't easy for the Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo to get
the balls through to us, but we got there eventually.”

不過我們最終還是晉級了。」
All three of the attacking trio were replaced in the game
which has raised doubts about whether they will start again
in the quarters against Ukraine.
“The Coach will make his decisions over the next four or five days
and we are ready for whatever he proposes,” concluded the Milan man.
三名先發前鋒都被換下引發對烏克蘭戰先發人選的質疑，Gilaridno說：
「教練會在未來四到五天做出決定，無論他怎麼計畫我們都做好了準備。」
