Toro relish Serie A return

Torino returned to Serie A after three years in dramatic fashion
last night and are celebrating the memorable play-off victory
over Mantova.
“We did something extraordinary that will remain
in the history of Toro,” exclaimed Coach Gianni De Biasi
following the 3-1 win in extra time that saw them through 5-5
on aggregate thanks to their higher position in the League table.

“We reached this great pinnacle thanks to the dedication
and incredible team spirit. The locker room was a crucial element
during difficult times.”

It was a tense finale for the Granata, who saw Enrico Fantini
sent off in extra time, but they clung on to scrape their way back
into the top flight.
“I honestly didn't understand Fantini's red card and with him
on the field we probably wouldn't have been under pressure.
Our hearts took us beyond the obstacles in our path.”

There was heartbreak for Mantova, who were Winter Champions
and topped the table from Week 6 to 26, but fell away

“I take my hat off to the players who kept pushing until

What counts is that the players return home knowing they gave their all.”

The season is over, but Mantova President Fabrizio Lori believes
their Serie A dream may still be on the cards after a summer
of Calciopoli scandals.
“It really hurts to lose the play-off Final this way and I hope we'll
be given a ticket to the top flight if any other clubs should be demoted.
I can only compliment my players for letting us dream this long.
If Mirco Gasparetto's late strike had gone in,
we would've been in Serie A. It's a very balanced sport
and we lacked that pinch of luck, but the lads fought hard
and showed their character.”

Next season's Serie A grid is completed – awaiting the verdicts
of the Disciplinary Commission – with Atalanta, Catania and Torino
climbing up.
Genoa look set to step back into Serie B, as they won the first leg
of the play-off Final 2-0 away to Monza. They hope to join Napoli,
Spezia and Frosinone – who enter the Second Division for the first time
in their history.
