Opinion: The best and the rest
Monday 15 March, 2004
The best…
Christian Vieri (Inter)
Despite the 0-0 draw with Chievo, Vieri demonstrated that he is a great.
He seemed to be the only real leader on the pitch yesterday even if he
was continually frustrated by Luca Marchegiani’s saves. He doesn’t
want to play UEFA Cup football next season and you can see it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giorgios Karagounis (Inter)
The fact that Karagounis was Inter’s most in form player yesterday
speaks volumes about the club’s problems. He was a figure of fun for
most fans this term but he did well against Chievo alongside more
illustrious names. He deserves to keep his place in the side.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marcos Cafu (Milan)
Roma were convinced that Marcos Cafu’s career was coming to an end
but that was a massive mistake. The Brazilian is playing some superb
football right now and impressed against Juve on the right flank.
A superb summer buy – when you consider he cost nothing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest…
Alessio Tacchinardi (Juventus)
We didn’t like his personal battle with Kaka and the numerous silly
fouls that he committed against Milan. He looked like a frustrated player
at the Delle Alpi last night, one who realised their own Scudetto hopes
had ended.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adriano (Inter)
The Inter virus has spread to Adriano. It’s incredible that a player
who was unstoppable for Parma earlier this term has turned into the
striker witnessed yesterday. He looked lost on the pitch, desperate
for an assist. Don’t worry Adri, Coach Roberto Mancini is on his way.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gianluca Comotto (Reggina)
It took Comotto less than a minute to make our list after his foul on
Francesco Totti. We understand that intimidation is a part of defending
but kicking the Roma captain in the air just seconds after the kick-off
is ridiculous. He may have been fortunate to just get booked.
