Marco Materazzi says he still can't believe that he was dismissed
in the 1-0 win over Australia. “I've committed one foul in
the World Cup and picked up one red card,” he said.
The Inter defender was harshly dismissed early in the second half
for a challenge on Marco Bresciano, one that is still haunting the stopper.
“I'm really disappointed,” he noted.
“My whole world fell apart when I saw that the red card was produced.

“Everything was thrown away for a foul that was not worthy of a dismissal.
After all, I actually made contact with Gianluca Zambrotta.”

Materazzi, who started in place of the injured Alessandro Nesta,
is now keeping his fingers crossed that he doesn't pick up a lengthy ban.
“I hope that I'm not handed a long suspension,” he noted.
“Hopefully, they will give me just a one-game stop.

“The only man who can save me is the referee if he admits that
he perhaps exaggerated with his decision.

Materazzi last night became the second Azzurro to be sent-off
at the World Cup so far after Daniele De Rossi saw red against
the USA for an elbow.

Matrix handed normal ban

The Italian Football Federation has confirmed that
Marco Materazzi has been handed a one-match ban following
his dismissal against Australia.
Materazzi只禁一場。
There were fears that the Inter stopper could be awarded
a tougher sentence given that he was shown a straight red
in the 1-0 second round win.
Yet the FIGC have today confirmed that the unfortunate defender
will miss the Ukraine match and then return for the semi-finals
should the Azzurri still be in the competition.
將錯過對烏克蘭。
Given that fellow centre-back Alessandro Nesta is injured,
Andrea Barzagli and Cristian Zaccardo are in contention to start
alongside Fabio Cannavaro on Friday.
Nesta仍受傷，所以 Cannvaro的搭檔將在 Barzagli、Zaccardo的競爭間產生。
