Lippi: What luck?

Italy boss Marcello Lippi has dismissed suggestions that his side
have been fortunate to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
The Azzurri will meet the Ukraine on Friday despite being reduced
to 10-men in two of their four games so far and disposing of Australia
in the last round with a disputed penalty.
But Lippi has today argued that fortune has definitely not been on
their side both before and during the tournament.
“Lucky? We had Francesco Totti ruled out for three months with injury,
then [Gianluca] Zambrotta, [Gennaro] Gattuso and [Alessandro] Nesta
all got injured,” he stated.
對於義大利被人家說是幸運晉級八強一事，Lippi說：
「幸運？我們隊上 Totti先因傷缺陣三個月，
然後換成 Zambrotta、Gattuso、Nesta相繼受傷。」
"On top of that we have to deal with the unprecedented mess
happening in Italy with regard to the scandal.
Yeah, you can say I have been really lucky…

娘的～我還真是有夠走運啊～」

“My players have had some problematic issues to contend with,
but are now full of enthusiasm. It would be a great achievement
for them to come amongst the first four.”
「我的球員們得跟一些爭議言論搏鬥，但仍然充滿熱情，
能打進四強的話對他們來說會是偉大的成就。」
To make matters worse, the Azzurri squad have also had to deal
with news of the serious condition of former Juventus stopper
Gianluca Pessotto following his dramatic fall on Tuesday.
“We are all in constant contact with friends, doctors and
the hospital statements,” stated Lippi, who bossed Pessotto at Juve.
“We have just one thought in our head: to see him return to his family
and amongst us.”
談到 Pessotto，Lippi說：「我們跟朋友、醫生與院方聲明都有保持聯繫，
在我們的腦海裡只有一個念頭：看到他重回家人的懷抱，跟我們重聚。」
Turning to footballing matters on the field, Lippi was eager to
underline that the Ukraine would provide his side with a tough test.
“Ukraine don't have only [Andriy] Shevchenko, this is a good team
with excellent elements who had a fantastic qualification campaign
to win a place at the Finals,” he continued.
談烏克蘭，Lippi說：「烏克蘭不是只有 Shevchenko，
他們是一隻擁有出色成員的好球隊，而且以絕佳的成績晉級世界盃決賽圈。」
“It's true that they haven't played difficult opponents after
their Spanish loss in their World Cup opener,
but there must be a reason if they are in the last eight.”

但是能夠晉級到最後八強絕對是有理由的。」
Lippi was remaining tight-lipped yet again with regard to
his possible starting XI, but was eager to defend himself
and his players from the criticism they have received regarding
their defensive nature to date.
"We hear that we are regressive and old-fashioned,
I think the criticism has been over the top,” he underlined.
Lippi照慣例不透露先發名單，不過面對義大利重於防守的批評，
他為自己與隊員們辯護：「有人說我們走回頭路、守舊，我認為這些批評過頭了。」
“We are here at a World Cup and we have brought all our enthusiasm
with us as well as millions of problems,
with Totti and all the other injuries.
「我們在這裡打世界盃，帶上我們所有的熱情，還有百萬個問題，
還有 Totti，跟其他的傷兵。」
"In the past year we have tried to play in a certain way
and produced some great games which were well received by everyone.
Now we get this over-reaction after two or three games where
we haven't played like that.”
「在過去一年我們嘗試打出特定球風，創造了幾場廣為人知的精彩比賽，
現在我們在兩、三場沒打出那種風格的比賽之後就受到這種過度反應的批評。」
